Exam Administration
All examinations are managed in the Campus Management System (CAS) by the examiners or examination administrators. Instructions can be found on KOALA in the course “Campus Help”.
At the beginning of the semester, all examinations must be confirmed so that students can register.

Oral re-examination
The oral re-examination should be held soon after the written examination. Dates are set by the examiners. Students may only withdraw from the examination by submitting a medical certificate to the examination board.
Publication of exam results
Grades can be made visible on a provisional basis in the Campus Management System. Grades that have been made visible on a provisional basis can still be changed by the examiners/exam administrators after the exams have been inspected. Changes to published grades can only be made by the Leistungskoordinatorinnen of the KIT Department.

Specialization / Project Work (Bachelor's Program)
In the 5th and 6th semester, bachelor's students chose a specialization worth 12 CP. Each specialization consists of two parts: an oral or written exam and a project work.
Assignment of places
Unlike in most other modules, there is a limit on the number of participants. Places for the individual specializations are allocated before the start of the winter semester (usually in June or July) following the Profilfachinformationsveranstaltung.
Please note: Students who miss the registration deadline can only be allocated remaining places. For reasons of fairness, remaining places are only allocated by the Dean's office. Students who wish to change their specialization must also contact the Dean's office.
Prerequisites and registration
Students must meet the following prerequisites before participating in the specialization:
- At least 60 LP
- At least one completed laboratory course
The prerequisites must be met by the end of the examination period of the summer semester.
Please note: The system will only check the requirements when students register for their first exam! Students can also participate in the allocation process if they have not met the requirements. It is therefore strongly recommended that the registration period for at least one of the two components (exam and/or project work) is set to the beginning of the winter semester (e.g., November 30). This prevents students from participating in the specialization even though they still lack the required prerequisites.
Changing / Postponing / Failing
Occasionally, students wish to change their specialization or postpone it for a year. Both are possible in agreement with the Dean's office.
If students wish to withdraw from their specialization and continue the following year (e.g., due to illness), they can reserve a place in the same specialization for the following year.
If students fail part of their specialization, the standard repetition rules apply: All examinations can be repeated once. In the case of written examinations, an oral re-examination must be offered after the second attempt, if necessary. If the project work is graded 5.0, it can also be repeated once.
Oral Examinations in the Master's Program
Specialized Course / Technical Supplement Course
In order to register for examinations in the technical supplement course or specialized course, a study plan approved by the master examination board (Ms. Gärtner) is required.
- Students register for an individual or overall exam in their specialized course by email or in person with the examiners (or their secretariat).
- Students register for the exam online in the Campus Management System.
- Before the exam, the study plan is presented to the assistant examiner. The assistant examiner checks the study plan to determine whether the student is eligible to take the exam.
- After the exam, the examiner (or each examiner in the case of a overall exam) enters the grade for his or her module in the Campus Management System.
Please note: In some cases, students may have already registered for the exam in a previous semester. In such cases, the grades can still be entered if the corresponding semester is selected.
Exception: Courses not included in the Campus Management System / placeholder modules. In this case, students must contact Ms. Gärtner prior to the exam and
- either have the module added to their study plan (regular online registration will then be possible), or
- obtain a “Zulassungsbescheinigung für eine Prüfungsleistung” and use this to register for the exam with the examiner. The form will be completed by the examiner after the exam and sent back to Ms. Gärtner (Building 40.51, Room 304).
Interdisciplinary Qualifications and Additional Examinations
Additional examinations and interdisciplinary qualifications at the KIT Department CIW
Students who wish to complete a module from our KIT Department's course offering as an additional examination or interdisciplinary qualification must register with Ms. Kadereit (Bachelor's) or Ms. Gärtner (Master's) prior to the exam. There are two options for exam registration:
a) Additional examinations and interdisciplinary qualifications can be registered online provided that the corresponding module has been individually added to the study plan of the respective person.
b) If this is not possible, students must obtain an "Zulassungsbescheinigung für eine Prüfungsleistung" from Ms. Kadereit (Bachelor’s) or Ms. Gärtner (Master’s) and use this to register for the examination with the examiner. After the examination, the form will be completed by the examiner and sent back to Ms. Kadereit or Ms. Gärtner.
Interdisciplinary qualifications at the House of Competence (HoC) or Language Center
If the interdisciplinary qualification is obtained at the HoC or Language Center, no Zulassungsbescheinigung is required for the exam, as the results are automatically recorded in the Campus Management System in the section “Not assigned grades”. Students must contact the Bachelor’s or Master’s Examination Board if they want the results to be assigned.
